Financial Pathways LLC Opens Bridgewater Office
(PRWeb) January 23, 2007 -- Financial Pathways LLC is bringing its unique style of financial planning and advisory services to residents of nearby Somerset, Middlesex, and Hunterdon Counties as it opens its new Bridgewater, NJ office location.
According to founder and president, James Kinney, the firm provides a new, alternative approach to financial planning which strives to align the interests of the planner with the interests of the client. Kinney explains, "The financial planning business has long been dominated by insurance companies and large corporate firms which are driven by a need to sell their proprietary products to you, the consumer. We do not believe that a financial plan should be a tool through which a company sells its products. Financial Pathways was designed to be free of the influence of the insurance and brokerage industries, which permits us to provide advice based solely on each client's need."
Kinney states that the firm struggles to counter the misconception that independent financial planning is only available to the very wealthy. "It is true that many successful independent firms will only work with clients who have $1 million or more in investable assets. It is a somewhat understandable policy, since these firms typically base their fees on the amount of assets being managed. A $1 milllion portfolio is much more profitable to these firms than a $50,000 account. Financial Pathways, however, is committed to making quality, independent advice available to anyone who needs it, regardless of asset levels. If a client is serious about improving his or her situation, we will find a way to help that client meet their goals."
Financial Pathways takes a holistic approach to financial planning. "Too many planners focus on investments and insurance, and pay scant attention to other important pieces of a client's financial puzzle" explains Kinney. "Helping a client invest money makes no sense if debt is out of control or cash flow is a mess. We help clients where they need help. Sometimes that means helping with budgets, sometimes it means addressing debt problems or issues with pensions or government benefits."
Financial Pathways is one of a relatively small number of planning firms which welcomes clients on an ad-hoc, hourly fee basis to tackle specific financial issues or problems, or even to provide a financial second opinion. "Many people desperately need a little direction to get them pointed in the right direction. Some of these people cannot afford, nor do they necessarily need, a comprehensive soup-to-nuts financial plan." says Kinney. With our hourly fee services, we can sit down, attack, and resolve the most urgent financial issue, at minimal cost to the client. Often, these clients will come back for additional assistance once their most pressing issues are resolved."
According to Kinney, his hourly fee services are also becoming popular with do-it-yourself investors. "I believe the majority of investors are better off allowing a professional to invest for them. Most people simply do not have the interest or time to devote to managing their own investments." he explains. With online brokerage services now readily available, however, it is becoming much easier for investors who do desire to implement their own investment plans. "Using hourly fees, we can help clients who wish to manage their own accounts develop an investment strategy that makes sense for them. We can then show them how to implement that plan on their own using low cost online brokerage firms." Kinney does caution, however, that it is important for clients to monitor and rebalance their portfolios on a regular basis.
Financial Pathways provides holistic financial planning services, such as retirement planning, small business financial consulting, college and home purchase planning, debt and mortgage management, investment advisory and investment management services to individuals and small businesses throughout central New Jersey.

Increase Your Insurance Knowledge
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) recently commissioned a survey to find out how much Americans know about insurance. Understanding insurance is very important when you are comparing insurance quotes to find the best deal to fit your specific insurance needs. The NAIC survey found most people didn't know quite as much about insurance as they thought. Part of the survey was a 10-question "Insurance IQ" quiz and survey takers averaged only four correct answers. These results contrast with the reported confidence in their insurance knowledge by survey takers. Sixty percent reported feeling "very confident" when making insurance decisions and a mere 15 percent reported insecurity in insurance matters.
